Chilean Seaweed
Chile has a coastline of 6,450 km. These characteristics make it one of the countries with the greatest exposure to the sea. The characteristics of the Pacific Ocean off the Chilean coast are very special given that the Humboldt current causes its waters to be cold, between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, with temperature variations much lower in relation to other oceans. These characteristics make the varieties of algae species very diverse and quite particular and unique. Thus, within the red algae and particularly in the Sarcothalia and Gigartina species, we find Lambda and Kappa 2 fractions that produce carrageenans of high viscosity and that are not found in many other algae in the world.
Likewise, Chile is characterized by having a wide range of brown algae whose functionalities of the alginates produced on them cover 100% of the range of all types of alginates with M / G ratios of a great variety. Our waters are still among the most pristine in the world, with large extensions of water parks without being affected by human development.
